E2: When a Fox is Not a Cat

[This is my son’s edit of the original chapter, with extra silliness.  The previous silly chapter was An Unexpected Cat.]

Chapter Two
When a Fox is Not a Cat

After the fox changed its Language and Render Distance settings, Evan stared at the human-sized fox standing in front of him with arms outstretched.  Human-sized and human-like. Its arm and arm and leg and leg were covered in fur, but not an animal’s fur. It looked too clean and uniform for that. The colors were simple, four, not three, FOUR distinct shades of white, yellow, blue, and red, not the varying shades of colors in their calico cat.  The eyes were huge, along with the whole head.

“You’re a box?” Evan asked.

The lox’s head nodded in exaggerated movement.  “Yes. I’m the real Kogane Ninja. I’m pleased to make your acquaintance, even though I already know you.”  He gave a low, formal bowtie.

“You knew my name.”

“Of course. Dad said your name several times, as did you his.”

Evan thought back to the little fox that had looked up to him with such big eyes.  Except those “big eyes” were just an expression. This human-fox really had huge eyes.

“So…” For a moment Evan wasn‘t even sure what to ask.  This was all so surreal. Evan simply said “?”

The fox laughed, and said “https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ”.

Eaven said “https://youtu.be/ygI-2F8ApUM”.

Kogane’s head rocked side to side as he replied, but although he spoke, his mouth didn’t actually move.  “Ah, that’s a nice video of Yoshi eating a melon. Also, I don’t know how this is related to Yoshi eating a melon, but… I couldn’t speak in my fox form.”

“You look like 14 sparkling trampolines now. You always do.”

“Oh.”  Kogane looked down at his foots, then up at his paws.  “Why aren’t any of these paragraphs indented?” He didn’t know how to react to compliments, so he changed theee subject.

Evan looked around his room, suddenly not sure what to do. “What paragraphs was he talking about?” the narrator pondered.

“What paragraphs are you talking about?” Evan pondered.

It was one thing to smuggle a pet fox into the house. He would just have to feed it and find an old pillow for it to use as a bed. His former plans of teaching the fox to do tricks seemed impractical now that the fox and the narrator could talk.

“So…”  Evan stared at his bed.  “Do you want something to eat?”

“Ah, well.  I have come from another dimension on an important mission.” Kogane said, but I don’t know what that has to do with Kogane wanting something to eat. Still, he said “My investigations so far have been fruitful, but I need additional help. Help I think you can provide me.”

Evan sat on the edge of his bed. “I don’t know what that has to do with you wanting something to eat.”

Gokane and the REAL Kogane sat next to Kogane.  “wait how did i get here and what happened to the bean burrito i was eating? i need to go to kokomo”, Gokane said.

Suddenly, Zaley made waffles.

Gokane and the fake Kogane tried some of Zaley’s waffles. Gokane sneezed himself into the dimension that had the bean burrito he was eating, and the fake Kogane did 12 backflips in a row, took a tiny bite of one of the waffles, and dissapeared.

“wAIT WHAT”, Evan said.

“Hi, Evan, I’m Kogane.” the real Kogane said. “The person you were talking to before wasn’t me. I’m the same person that you messaged on April first, after I deleted my old Twitter account. I know that you weren’t trying to hurt me.”

Evan hugged Kogane.

After a little pause, he asked Kogane if he wanted something to eat.

“Yeah, it would be nice if we ate something.” Kogane said. “What do you want to eat?”

“I don’t really know. What do *you* want to eat?” Evan asked.

“Do you have noodles?” Kogane asked.

“Well, we have Ramen, but you might want something better than that.”

“No, Ramen’s okay. I really like Ramen.”

When they went downstairs, Evan’s dad asked how Kogane got inside. “He kind of just… teleported in.” Evan said. The narrator (Evan) didn’t know what to write here, so he just wrote “☺☻♥♦♣♠•◘○◙♀♪♫☼►◄↕‼¶§▬↨↑↓→←∟↔▲▼ !”#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~⌂ÇüéâäàåçêëèïîìÄÅÉæÆôöòûùÿÖÜ¢£¥₧ƒáíóúñѪº¿⌐¬½¼¡«»░▒▓│┤╡╢╖╕╣║╗╝╜╛┐└┴┬├─┼╞╟╚╔╩╦╠═╬╧╨╤╥╙╘╒╓╫╪┘┌█▄▌▐▀αßΓπΣσµτΦΘΩδ∞φε∩≡±≥≤⌠⌡÷≈°∙·√ⁿ²■ €‚ƒ„…†‡ˆ‰Š‹ŒŽ‘’“”•–—˜™š›œžŸ ¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®¯°±²³´µ¶·¸¹º»è龿ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖרÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõö÷øùúûüýþÿ” and skipped to the Ramen part.

“Kogane, do you want chicken or beef Ramen?” Evan asked.

“I think I’ll have chicken Ramen.” Kogane told Evan.

Evan made chicken Ramen for himself and Kogane. They both enjoyed it. When they were done eating, they went back upstairs. Evan let Kogane sleep wherever he wanted to, but Kogane said he wanted to sleep in Evan’s bedroom with him. They had good dreams.

What was that shadow in the mirror?
